niki juralewicz and k rain leander Deterministic Permitting at most one next move at any step in a computation DURHAM (February 12 2007) - The co-production of Deterministic is proud to present the first in a series of performances that will transform the face of dance in the Triangle. Choreographers Niki Juralewicz and K Rain Leander will present the first show, Deterministic Begins, on March 9 - 10, 2007 in the Carr Studio at the Durham School of the Arts in Durham, NC. Inspired by North Carolina's gentle changing seasons and sewn together by the journey of a single dancer, Automne's dynamic collaboration has evolved from an exploration of the later years of an individual's lifecycle to become a somber remembrance of a loved one who passed away shortly after its debut. Choreographed and directed by Ms. Leander, Automne draws on Butoh (a Japanese style of dance), theater and contemporary dance techniques to create a moving painting. Somber, precise movement set to international music creates an almost-hypnotic and stirring experience. Ms. Juralewicz's Dulcinea is a series of duets that explore the relationship between two people. The duets, set in contrast to each other, highlight the range and capacity of our relationships. Ms. Leander will also show another excerpt of Beauty^3, a duet featuring the talents of dancers Sarah Nelson and Lauren Puente, which explores beauty in its social, psychological, and physical manifestations, and challenging the 'societal norm' and the peer pressure to be skinnier and prettier - to be beautiful. 29 is a new experimental work by Niki Juralewicz as she attempts to select sections from other dances and combine them into a new visual experience with a large group of dancers. Dancers from the Durham School of the Arts will participate in this dance.
